Why visit Burgundy in autumn?
Whether on foot or by bike, autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons to explore the vineyards of Burgundy. After the harvest, the landscape changes colour and trails wind their way between vineyard plots, dry-stone walls and traditional stone vineyard huts known locally as cabottes.
It is also the perfect time to discover the famous Climats of the Burgundy wine region, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. In Burgundy, the term Climat refers to a precisely defined vineyard plot, shaped over centuries and associated with its own distinctive terroir.
Around Les Sources de Vougeot lie some of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated wine villages: Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin.

Visit the Château du Clos de Vougeot
Just a few minutes from Les Sources de Vougeot, the Château du Clos de Vougeot is an essential stop when exploring the Côte de Nuits.
Founded by the monks of Cîteaux, the estate offers a fascinating introduction to centuries of Burgundy’s winemaking history, including its historic wine presses and vat house.
After your visit, continue with a walk through the vineyards around Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny.
Explore the Route des Grands Crus
From the hotel, Burgundy’s famous Route des Grands Crus leads to the great wine villages of the Côte de Nuits within minutes.
Take time to stop in Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée or Nuits-Saint-Georges, walk among the vineyard plots and arrange a Burgundy wine tasting with a local winemaker.
Discover Burgundy’s blackcurrant tradition
When the weather turns cooler, the Cassissium in Nuits-Saint-Georges offers an opportunity to discover another Burgundy speciality: blackcurrant.
Its interactive visitor experience is followed by a tour of the Védrenne liqueur distillery and a tasting, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available, making it an enjoyable activity for families too.
Beaune: a day of heritage and gastronomy
During your stay at Les Sources de Vougeot, set aside a day to explore Beaune, south of the hotel.
Visit the Hôtel-Dieu at the Hospices de Beaune, instantly recognisable by its colourful glazed-tile roofs and one of Burgundy’s most iconic historic monuments.
Then explore Beaune’s historic centre on foot, wandering between its ramparts, wine cellars and gourmet addresses.
Every November, Beaune hosts one of Burgundy’s major autumn events: the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction. In 2026, the festivities will take place from 13 to 15 November, with the famous wine auction held on Sunday 15 November.
