A Wine Country Escape in Cheverny

Staying among the vineyards in the Loire Valley means discovering a wine region closely connected to its landscapes, picturesque villages and historic châteaux. At Les Sources de Cheverny, the experience is even more distinctive: the vineyards are part of the estate itself.

Just a few kilometres from the Château de Cheverny, surrounded by vineyards, forests and ponds, the hotel provides an ideal base for exploring the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations and their emblematic grape variety: Romorantin.

At Les Sources de Cheverny, the Vineyards Begin on the Estate

Seven hectares of Romorantin vines have been planted organically on the grounds of Les Sources de Cheverny.

These vineyards produce La Grand’Vigne, the hotel’s own Cour-Cheverny wine, developed in collaboration with local winemaker Philippe Tessier.

Romorantin alone is reason enough to explore this part of the Loire Valley. Closely associated with the Cour-Cheverny appellation, this distinctive grape variety produces white wines renowned for their freshness, minerality and complexity.

A stay at Les Sources de Cheverny therefore offers the opportunity to discover a wine region that is less widely known than Sancerre or Vouvray, yet has a remarkably distinctive identity.

Discover the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny Wine Estates

Several wineries near the hotel offer the opportunity to explore the region’s winemaking traditions and meet local producers.

Domaine Le Portail, approximately 2–3 km from the hotel, is an excellent place to begin. Set within a former monastery where vines have been cultivated for centuries, this family-run estate produces Cheverny red, white and rosé wines, Cour-Cheverny and Crémant de Loire sparkling wines. Cellar visits are available by appointment.

Another notable estate, Domaine des Huards, in Cour-Cheverny, has been associated with the Gendrier family since 1846. Its vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, producing wines under the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations. It is a particularly interesting destination for visitors wishing to learn more about Romorantin.

Domaine Tessier has a special connection with Les Sources de Cheverny, as Philippe Tessier helped develop La Grand’Vigne. Today, the family estate is run by Simon Tessier and produces organically farmed wines from both the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations.

Three estates, three different approaches, but one shared appeal: discovering how variations in soil, location and individual winemaking techniques create different expressions of the same wine region.

For wine enthusiasts planning a longer stay, Cheverny also provides a convenient starting point for exploring other Loire Valley wine regions.

In Vouvray, Clos Naudin, the estate of Philippe Foreau, is another highly regarded winery recommended by our concierge team.
