Strolls in Burgundy

Strolls around Vougeot

Along the Vouge and the Vineyards

The Vouge Walk celebrates the gentle river that winds its way through the vineyards before reaching the plains. As it passes through the estate of Les Sources de Vougeot, it offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere, where the soft murmur of the water and the cool air along the banks invite calm and reflection.
Following the river’s course, the trail reveals its tributaries, old mills, small bridges, and wooded areas. Perfect for a nature escape from the hotel, this walk charms with its tranquility and its immediate connection to the surrounding landscape.

The Vougeot Circuit highlights the rich winegrowing heritage and iconic landscapes of the Clos de Vougeot. Winding through the vineyards, it offers breathtaking views of the château and the terraced slopes listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stretching over approximately 8.5 kilometers (5 miles), this accessible loop alternates between vineyard paths and forest trails. It invites you to admire the geometry of the parcels, appreciate the richness of the terroirs, and take in the Clos from different perspectives, where history and nature intertwine.

The Abbey Trail

From Vougeot to Cîteaux

Between nature and spirituality, the Monks’ Walk invites you to step back in time. This trail links Vougeot to the prestigious Abbey of Cîteaux, birthplace of the Cistercian order founded in the 12th century. The monks once shaped this landscape, planting the first vines of the Clos de Vougeot and sculpting the surrounding valleys.

As you walk, the path follows in the footsteps of the monks of old, winding between vineyards and open fields. About twelve kilometers (7.5 miles) round trip, the route crosses forests, meadows, and country lanes in an atmosphere of deep serenity.

At the end of the trail, the Abbey of Cîteaux reveals its sober yet majestic architecture, a true testament to medieval monastic ingenuity. Visitors can discover the daily life of the monks who still reside there, explore the monastic bookstore, and taste the famous Cîteaux cheese, still produced on-site.

Accessible to all, this half-day hike combines heritage discovery and renewal. It offers a peaceful and inspiring experience, connecting the history of wine with the spiritual heritage of Burgundy.

The Route des Grands Crus

By car or by bike

For a more panoramic outing, the Grands Crus Wine Route, stretching between Dijon and Beaune, offers an iconic journey through the Burgundy vineyards over some sixty kilometers (about 37 miles). This legendary route links prestigious villages such as Vosne-Romanée, Meursault, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Pommard.

It can be explored by bike, ideal for cycling enthusiasts, or by car, stopping at points of interest, wine cellars, and scenic overlooks offering breathtaking views over the hillsides. It is also possible to combine the route with short hikes through the vineyard slopes for a closer look at the landscape.

A walking alternative, the “Balade des Grands Crus,” follows a nine-kilometer (5.5-mile) trail connecting Vougeot to Vosne-Romanée. The path crosses some of Burgundy’s most celebrated vineyard plots and features interpretive panels that reveal the richness and diversity of these exceptional terroirs.
